WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY?
International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day, celebrated on March 8 in 2020, also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality. IWD has occurred for well over a century, with the first IWD gathering in 1911 supported by over a million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. IWD is not country-, group- or organization-specific.
WHAT IS WRITING ON THE WALLS?
Writing on the Walls is a series of collaborative public art installations and events from March 4 through 11, presented by the Downtown Austin Alliance. Local, national, and international artists will simultaneously create two new landmarks in downtown Austin. Canadian artist Sandra Chevrier collaborated with American street artist and graphic designer Shepard Fairey on an iconic 12-story mural that will be painted on the west side of The LINE. The design fuses both of their styles and incorporates iconography that evokes the power of women and the history of women’s rights in this country. Austin-based emerging Artist Sadé Lawson will create a bold, large scale mural on South Lamar exemplifying her fresh and unique style exploring identity and mental illness.
More than murals, Writing on the Walls is a week-long celebration of art, diversity and public spaces in our community. The events and activations throughout the week include film screenings, workshops, artist demonstrations, live mural painting, and much more. We invite the community to participate in this first of its kind experience. You can learn more about the whole series here.

craftHER Market is a biannual market, produced and presented by bbatx. It's been inspired by a few of our favorite things: pop-up spaces, traditional marketplaces and the people who organize others to gather. In its three years of existence, craftHER Market has showcased more than 600 makers and seen 20,000+ attendees and 2,000+ applicants. Opening every Spring and Fall, the two-day community event features entrepreneurial panels, opportunities to support local nonprofits and family-friendly activities. Reflecting a myriad of women and nonbinary artists and creative entrepreneurs across Texas, all 150 of our seasonal exhibitors own their craft, and at least 90% of our booths exhibit wares made by hand. 🎈Learn more at crafthermarket.com.
